The Big Hero 6 television series was announced in Spring 2016, with a scheduled debut of 2017. It follows on from the hugely popular, Academy Award winning Disney animated movie of the same name. The television series will pick up immediately following the events of the original movie and will continue to follow the adventures of the teenage protagonist Hiro and of course, his robot friend Baymax. Kim Possible creators Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley are behind the television adaptation for Disney XD.
The Big Hero 6 animated series will follow tech genius Hiro as he embarks on his journey as the latest student at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. As always he will be accompanied by his robot Baymax and we will also get to see the rest of the friends who make up the Big Hero 6 superhero team – Wasabi, Fred, Honey Lemon and Go Go. Not only will Hiro find himself facing some pretty daunting academic challenges, but also some social ones – not to mention having to do their duty as superheroes and protect the city of San Fransokyo from a number of tech heavy villains!
There was initially talk of making a movie sequel to Big Hero 6, but that seems to have been put on the back burner for now with the animated television series filling that role instead. A spokesman for Disney Channels Worldwide has said that everyone at Disney XD is excited to get the chance to further develop the characters introduced in the original animated movie in order to create what they envision as a world class animated series packed with fun, action and above all else, great storytelling.
If you are a fan of the Big Hero 6, then it is likely that you are also going to enjoy the animated series. However, if you are new to Baymax and co, then we would say that if you are a fan of other animations such as The Incredibles, Wreck it Ralph or Despicable Me then you will likely enjoy Big Hero 6.
