Set to premiere during Fox’s 2016-2017 entertainment lineup, Shots Fired is a drama about the wake of a racially charged shooting in a fictional town. The show is timely, given the prevalence of racial issues plaguing the United States current events. The fictional town is located in North Carolina, and has a whole team of talented cast and crew to make it a successful show. Notably, Helen Hunt will play the North Carolina Governor in the series. It will likely raise awareness about the issues, and how they are dealt with on media and the impact of it. Those who are interested in current events and would like to see how it is portrayed in a fictional manner, this show is a must hit. While the show has many notable actors and actresses in it, Helen Hunt and Richard Dreyfuss are likely the ones that will draw the most attention to the new series. Helen Hunt has been in the acting scene on television since 1973 and in film since 1977. Her most recent television role was over a decade ago so this will be a change of pace for her. She has won and been nominated for several awards including Primetime Emmys, Golden Globes, American Comedy Awards, and Screen Actors Guild to name a few. Richard Dreyfuss has been on television since 1966 and film the following year. Some of his most notable appearances have been in Jaws and Mr. Holland’s Opus among many other different films and television shows. He was most recently in television on Your Family or Mine as Louis in 2015.

How is the production going for the show?

It was announced in December 2015 that the show would be picked up as a series rather than just a pilot. The concept came from the racial tensions and demonstrations the country has been dealing with as of late. It was created by Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood and the duo will act as executive producers for the show. Joining them will be Francie Calfo and Brian Grazer. It began filming in March 2016, and is expected to continue into July. Filming has taken place throughout various locations in South Carolina. Casting began in December, and it was in March that Hunt and Dreyfuss were announced as part of the cast.

So far, people are intrigued by the concept of the new show as it shines a light on controversial issues in the country. Unfortunately, the prevalence of shootings that are seemingly racially charged have grown in past years. When can people expect to see the show air on Fox?

Currently, the series is still filming and is expected to do so into the summer. It is likely that the show will be finished up by the fall. While they haven’t announced when the show will air, it is likely it will premiere in the fall in the weeks leading up to the 2016 presidential election.
