After only one season Nikki Glaser’s show has been shown the door by Comedy Central. The news was confirmed when Glaser was a guest on Chelsea, and is still surprise considering the positive vibes the show has been getting.
Not Safe was a different kind of talk show, one that was an adults only half hour that had a focus on sex. But it was meant to entertain more than educate, yet still did both quite well. With well-known guests making an appearance on every show, they covered several topics that would have made other late night talk show hosts blush. Nothing was off limits, and Glaser was very open minded during the entirety of its run. After its original debut in February, Comedy Central seemed pretty happy with the direction the show was taking and doubled the order. Season one went from ten episodes to twenty, with a strong increase in content.
The ratings never really improved much after the renewal, but they didn’t drop off. So it’s a bit confusing why they cancelled the show, unless they were expecting a sharp rise in the ratings later on. The network is still keeping their relationship with Glaser since she is one of the hottest comedians in the game. She has several guest spots on their shows and has done a lot of successful stand-up specials.
Of course a lot of people are going to be upset with the news that Glaser’s show got cancelled, but the bigger picture is that Comedy Central is running a tighter ship. Whatever they are planning should work out soon, since they seem to be pretty cancel happy this year. If they cancel another fan favorite show before the year is over then there will be a slight revolt from the viewership.
Were you a fan of the show? How do you feel about the cancellation?
